Late Śląsk Wrocław comeback rescues point

2013-08-12 16:11:10
Two goals in the last 15 minutes, including an acrobatic effort by Przemysław Kaźmierczak, saw Śląsk Wrocław recover a point after trailing by 2:0 to Pogoń Szczecin in the T-Mobile Ekstraklasa yesterday. Meanwhile, tickets for the glamour clash against Sevilla FC are on sale from tomorrow - with prices frozen from previous rounds.
Following Śląsk's European exploits on Thursday when they shocked Club Brugge in an enthralling encounter, one could forgive WKS for being a bit slow off the blocks. Szczecin were eager to take advantage by getting off to a good start, and were able to do just that when Wojciech Golla opened the scoring the in the 10th minute. A quickly taken Pogoń short corner was flicked on by Chałas, whose header was directed home by Golla right in the front of the goal-line.

Śląsk worked their way back into the game and soon created a few chances of their own, but some loose play allowed Pogoń to double their advantage going into the break. Dalibor Stevanović was caught in possession when two Szczecin players hunted him down, and with Adam Kokoszka unable to clear his lines, the ball fell to Akahoshi, whose shot slipped under the arms of Marian Kelemen.

Śląsk have already showed plenty of resilience this season to comeback from setbacks however, and the fighting spirit was on show again come the end of the match. Przemysław Kaźmierczak has had a couple of key assists to his name in recent games, and this time it was his to turn to get on the score-sheet - and boy was it one to remember. Controlling Sobota's header superbly on his chest just to the left of the penalty spot, the towering midfielder executed a spectacular Rivaldo-esque bicycle kick that powered into the top right-hand corner. That goal gave the visitors another 15 minutes to restore parity, and there was no shortage of the belief that they could pull it off.

With 4 minutes left Śląsk got the equaliser they deserved, with Kaźmierczak playing a key role again. His expertly weighted pass found Tomasz Hołota just inside the penalty area, and the young striker turned neatly to belt the ball past the keeper's left hand and into the back of the net. Śląsk battled on in the dying moments to win all three points, but in the end both sides had to accept a share of the spoils.

In other news, Śląsk have released ticket details for the titanic fixture against Spanish giants Sevilla FC. For all the info on how to get tickets and how much they cost, see the Wrocław Uncut events page.
