Paixao Powers New Look Śląsk To Victory

New Śląsk Wrocław coach Tadeusz Pawłowski enjoyed a winning start to his tenure when WKS defeated Crakovia 1-0 yesterday, thanks to a goal by the team's new captain, portuguese striker Marco Paixao.
In the first half Crakovia looked to go on the offensive, creating a number of chances in the opening 40 minutes. A mixture of poor finishing and great goalkeeping spared Śląsk blushes during this period, but despite being on the backfoot for almost the entire half, it was WKS who took the lead.

It seemed almost destiny that the goal-scorer would be Marco Paixao, who had just replaced Sebastian Mila as Śląsk's new captain in midweek. The Portuguese forward clinically volleyed home Patejuk's cutback from a deep Dudu cross, and then promptly sprinted to the WKS bench to celebrate with his team-mates.

The goal gave Śląsk a much needed confidence boost, the effect of which was clear to see in the second half. For most of the last 45 minutes, it was Śląsk who looked the more likely to grab the crucial 2nd goal.

Slovakian signing Róbert Pich performed particularly well in his role upfront, showing some nice touches and a willingness to go forward, with his rather pathetic dive for a penalty the only blemish on an otherwise solid performance.

In the closing stages the nerves did kick in however, as the Śląsk defence began to sit deeper and deeper in a valiant attempt to hold onto their one goal lead.

Thankfully, Marian Kelemen performed heroics to keep Crakovia at bay, giving new coach Tadeusz Pawłowski the perfect start to his second stint as Śląsk Wrocław coach.

Pawłowski will need a lot more from his players this coming Sunday however, when they face off against league leaders Legia Warszawa.
