Śląsk Defeated On Ekstraklasa Return

Śląsk Wrocław's return to the Ekstraklasa ended in defeat in Poznań yesterday evening, when they lost 1:2 to Lech in front of a big crowd at the INEA Stadium.
It was the home side who opened the scoring in the 12 minute thanks to a Kasper Hamalainen header - the Finish international nutmegged Kelemen from close range, having been free in the box for a free kick.

Śląsk managed to level things up 16 minutes later however, as a result of some calamitous defending and a bizarre series of ricochets. It wasn't exactly the most classy of football, but Marco Paixao deserves plenty of credit for quickly reacting to get his body on the end of the goalkeeper's block and diverting the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half Śląsk started to exert themselves on the game more, albeit with a lack of real end product as a result of the players' endeavor. Then with the game well and truly in the balance, Lech grabbed all three points courtesy of a wonder-strike by Łukasz Teodorczyk. The Polish international striker evaded the challenge of Socha and found just enough space to pull the trigger, before promptly firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

In the final moments Śląsk brought in fresh blood in the shape of substitutes Plaku, Zieliński and Adamec, but the new additions were sadly unable to fashion an equaliser.

Śląsk Wrocław are next in action on Sunday, when they take on Ruch Chorzów in the Municipal Stadium. Kick off is at 6pm.
