Śląsk Held by Górnik

Tadeusz Pawłowski's solid start to his tenure at Śląsk Wrocław continued yesterday, when a 1-1 over Górnik Zabrze made it 4 games unbeaten for the new head coach.
Śląsk Wrocław were much the better side from the off, dominating possession and playing with a newly found assertiveness.

Marco Paixao was particularly lively upfront, and after being denied twice early on, the Portuguese striker eventually found the net in the 25th minute. Zieliński's ball into the box was a good one, and Paixao expertly directed his header to the right of the goalkeeper to put WKS a goal up.

In the second half the pattern continued, but time and time again Śląsk's final ball let them down as they failed to make the most of their possession in the final third.

Just ten minutes from time Górnik then punished the home side for their slackness by equalising courtesy of a well placed strike by Iwan. The Polish midfielder brushed aside Zieliński at the back post, creating enough space to belt home a shot into the bottom right hand corner.

The goal sparked an immediate reaction from WKS, who rushed forwards in order to get back into a winning position. Just two minutes after the equaliser, Stevanović came within inches of scoring when his strike from just inside the box thundered off the crossbar.

Throwing caution to the wind almost cost Wrocław dearly however, as in the last seconds of stoppage time Górnik broke at a lightning pace to create a golden goal scoring opportunity at the death. To the relief of the home fans, the chance came to nothing and both teams had to settle for a point.
