Śląsk Wrocław Deny Legia

A much improved Śląsk Wrocław side drew 1-1 with table toppers Legia Warszawa in an entertaining encounter yesterday evening. The introduction of Flavio Paixao to Śląsk's starting lineup helped spark some much needed creativity into the team, while the levels of energy and motivation were evidently higher than in the first half of the campaign.
WKS came out of the blocks quickly, showing a clear intent to battle away against the champions and win all three points. That said, the defensive errors that have cost them dearly this season were laid bare time and time again, and WKS were lucky not to pay for one or two poor defensive lapses early on. Fortunately once again Slask's shotstopper Marian Kelemen was in inspired form, pulling off a string of fine saves.

In the second half Śląsk started to set their authority on the game, with the Paixao brothers' ingenuity adding another dimension to the team's attacking play. Robert Pich was also looking lively, and it was his involvement in the 64th minute that helped to gain his side a crucial penalty. Pich's quick turn in the box deceived Legia's Dossa Junior, who dived in expecting to block a shot. Then when Pich did pull the trigger it clearly stuck Junior's arm as he picked himself up.

The referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Marco Paixao made no mistake from 12 yards, wrong footing the keeper to fire his side into the lead.

That put the Śląsk in a great position to seal a famous win against the champions, but sadly it just wasn't to be. In the 83rd minute Radović expertly latched onto a throw in and turned on the spot before directing a delightful volley into the bottom corner.

The equaliser spurred on the visitors, but a determined Śląsk Wrocław team battled away to earn themselves a deserved point on the night.
